Meat is also considered to be a tamasic food, though many yoga practitioners choose to follow a vegetarian lifestyle.

Unlike tamasic foods, rajasic meals are designed to ignite the spirit and enhance positive energy. Rajasic foods include those that are hot, bitter, dry, salty, or spicy. Coffee, peppers, and salt are all common rajasic foods that are easy to incorporate into a yogic diet.

Choose Fresh, Locally Sourced Options

Pre-packaged foods are often full of unhealthy chemicals and preservatives, including dangerous BPA’s in wrapping and containers. Artificial flavors and sweeteners are generally unhealthy for you, and may even be carcinogenic.

When following a yoga diet, it’s best to skip the frozen section and head over to the fresh fruits and vegetables. These are healthier for both the mind and the body. Whenever possible, it’s best to look for local produce. Not only is it guaranteed to be fresh, but you’ll also be supporting local farmers and helping to cut back on pollution from transportation.
